Portrait Firenze

The Hotel

Many are those who visit charming Florence, but only a few have the opportunity to appreciate it from a strategic angle, with views of the Arno River from a sumptuous hotel. These are only a few of the privileges that await for the Portrait Firenze guests.

The architect Michele Bönan elaborated carefully every detail of this property. The result of his elaborated work is a piece of art: it hardly looks like a hotel, but actually a house far away from home. To begin with, forget about the traditional check-in counters. Sit on the couch and wait for a friendly staff member to greet you with a welcome drink and a modern laptop, where he will take notes of all your preferences, from your favorite kind of pillow to the ideal room temperature.

The hotel interior is in sober and elegant tones featuring a wooden floor and large lamps. The walls display black-and-white photographs of major figures such as Clark Gable, the Duke of Windsor, Ingrid Bergman, Le Corbusier and Audrey Hepburn. The hotel still offers some little spoils such elevators seats (they are really convenient after a day touring around the Uffizi corridors). Technology is everywhere in the hotel, but very discretely. You can choose the restaurant’s soundtrack via Bluetooth or take a selfie with the elevator’s IPad.

The Ferragamos are the hotel owners – just walk along the hallways and you will some members of the family framed on the walls. And by the way, all the guests have a free ticket to the Salvatore Ferragamo museum and a discount of 10% in the Salvatore Ferragamo boutique at via Tornabuoni.

Suites

From the 37 rooms, 32 are suites. The smallest has 48 m², so you can expect a lot of comfort and space. Each suite has its own full kitchen with a small dishwasher. The bigger suites have two bathrooms, dressing rooms, a dining table and much more. A “good night” button by the bed’s side turns of the lights of the bedroom and a Bluetooth system allows you to manipulate the TV volume or to listen to the music that is on your phone at the living area, in the room or in the shower. And speaking of bathrooms, all are in white Carrara marble.

The luxurious Ponte Vecchio suite is 120 m² of pure elegance on the sixth floor, not to mention that it has the hotel’s best view. It can be booked without necessarily having to book the entire Penthouse and is ideal for families since it has two rooms, two bathrooms and spacious dining and living rooms. To small events, the kitchen-bar is tempting to prepare special dishes or hiring a chef to spoil you and your guests. It is also worth ordering breakfast in the room so to enjoy the magnificent sunrise view.

Gastronomy

Breakfast is at Caffe Dell'Oro, the hotel’s restaurant, a space filled with natural light and covered by white bricks, dark wood and shades of gray and large windows that overlook the river. In the menu, you will find fresh fruits, yogurts and cereals, local chesses, meats and smoked salmon, sweets and breads, as well as light tidbits (Italian frittata with cheese and spinach is light and delicious). To make it even better, it is possible to enjoy breakfast from 07 to 11 and then you can eat lunch a little later. And talking about lunch, the artisanal salamis and Florentine breads are a good entrance to the main dishes with trout and grilled octopus; as for dinner, it has a regional flavor with the special chef Peter Brunel touch, starring tempting dishes like tuna tartare, suckling pig and truffles.

Leisure

The Portrait Firenze suites are all luxurious and is really hard to leave them, but happily the hotel is very well located, next to the main interest points of the city – including the Catedral de Santa Maria del Fiore (aka Duomo), the Batistério and the Basílica de Santa Maria Novella.

The hotel offers bike rental, which is one of the best ways to get to know Florence. Use them to explore each corner of the city, the endless museums, palaces, churches and their serene gardens. And do not forget to stop by the Mercato Centrale to discover Tuscany’s flavors and aromas.

The Concierge do Portrait organizes tours for all ages, including the famous Vespas rides, another super popular mean of locomotion in the city.
